Turbinicarpus jauernigii Synonyms- Turbinicarpus lophophoroides ssp jauernigii, Pediocactus lophophoroides v jauernigii. Description- Body- Usually solitary, globular depressed, 10-20mm high, 25-50mm wide grey-green. Root- Taproot. Tubercles- Poorly developed low rounded. Spines- Radials- 1 (usually) rigid white with grey tip 10mm long. Centrals- None. Flowers- Pale pinkish-brown with a brown midstripe, 25mm long, 15mm wide. Fruits- Greenish-magenta. Distribution- Ciudad del Maiz in the state of San Luis Potosi (Mexico). Notes- This plant was first discovered in 1991 by J Jauernig. Robust species to cultivate. Shows some resemblance to Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp schwarzii but this species flowers in the autumn rather than the spring. |
